Commercial Paving for the greater Chicagoland and Midwest Area!
Commercial Paving for the greater Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Area!
As part of the Golden Corridor, Schaumburg is home to numerous thriving businesses as well as more than 72,000 residents. When commercial property managers and business owners need asphalt paving, asphalt repair, parking lot striping, asphalt milling, hot crack sealing, crack routing, or asphalt sealcoating, they often turn to Black Hawk Paving for assistance.
The first inhabitants of the area surrounding what is now Schaumburg were Native American tribes, including the Kickapoo, Potawatomi, Sauk, and Fox. By the 1830s, settlers began arriving, many of whom had immigrated from Germany. Whether the first settler was from New York or Germany is still under debate, but by 1840, 28% of the population was German-born, and within a decade, that had increased to 48%. From 1870 until the 1930s, virtually all of the property in Schaumburg was owned by immigrants from Germany or their descendants. In part, the declining population of settlers from the New England area continued westward, lured by changes in the homesteading laws that opened up substantial parts of the Great Plains for settlement.
The German heritage has remained an important influence, and as recently as the 1950s, most of the households reported that German was their first language. The German heritage is also apparent in the name chosen for the village. Many of the early immigrants came from Schaumburg-Lippe, a small electorate in what is now Lower Saxony.
The village was officially incorporated in 1956 with a population of 130; four years later, the village had 986 residents. Civic leaders during the 1950s and 1960s are credited with exercising the thoughtful planning that allowed for the controlled development and growth of the village. The population jumped to almost 19,000 in 1970, more than 53,000 in 1980, and over 68,500 in 1990.
